DSM Specials · Your information
Privacy Notice
Effective October 3, 2026
DSM Specials helps people discover restaurant and bar specials in the Des Moines area. This notice explains how we handle information on dsmspecials.com. Contact us at hello@dsmspecials.com with questions or privacy requests.
The early email list
When you voluntarily join, we save your email address, signup date, signup source, and the date and wording of your consent, including the privacy notice version. We use this information to maintain the early list and prepare future DSM Specials emails about restaurant deals, local food news, and featured or sponsored restaurant offers.
Email delivery is not connected yet. We do not currently send signup confirmations or newsletters. Early signups are pending, and we have not verified ownership of those email addresses. When a delivery service is connected, we may securely transfer the list and consent records to that service to manage these updates. We will identify the service in this notice before using it.
Sharing and service providers
We use Supabase to store website information, Vercel to host the website, and Zoho Mail to handle messages sent to our contact addresses. These providers process information needed to operate their services. We do not sell your email address or give subscriber email lists to restaurants for their own marketing.
We may share combined signup counts and restaurant engagement statistics with restaurant partners. Those reports do not include subscriber email addresses. We may disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect the service and its users.
Website activity and location
We collect first-party usage events, such as page and special views, filter use, and clicks on restaurant, ordering, sharing, and hero links. A random first-party browser identifier, stored locally for a fixed 180 days, helps measure repeat activity and distinct browsers. This is not a verified person or cross-device identity. The database stores a purpose-specific hash, not the original identifier. Our analytics do not store email addresses, full IP addresses, precise coordinates, or the text you type into search. The analytics system respects supported Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Nearby asks for location only when you choose it. Your coordinates are used in the browser to calculate distances; they are not saved as location history or connected to email signups.
Submissions, security, and browser storage
If you submit a special or report an inaccuracy, we store the information you provide so administrators can review it. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in comments. Anonymous verification actions update special freshness and are limited to reduce abuse.
We use temporary, scrambled network identifiers to limit repeated requests. Email-signup rate-limit identifiers rotate daily, and expired entries are removed on subsequent signup activity after two days. Hosting providers may process network addresses and technical logs to deliver and secure the service.
The site uses browser storage for browsing state and a random analytics session, and cookies for administrator sign-in. Subscriber records are restricted to authorized administrators and server-side processing. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection.
Your choices and retention
Clearing site data, resetting your identifier, or its 180-day expiry starts a new browser identity. Opting out clears the local identifier and stops future collection; it does not retroactively erase anonymous aggregate history. Browser hashes in v2 events are cleared after 400 days on the next eligible production collection day. Raw event history remains for diagnostics. No collection means that cleanup waits until collection resumes.
Analytics choices
You can opt out or reset your anonymous browser identifier. Browser privacy signals always take precedence.
You can browse specials without joining the list. To withdraw email consent, request removal, or ask to access or correct your information, email hello@dsmspecials.com, preferably from the address involved. We may ask for enough information to verify the request and protect your information.
We retain signup information while it is needed for the early list and future updates. If you opt out, we mark the address unsubscribed and retain a limited record of that choice to avoid re-adding it unintentionally. We handle deletion requests subject to information reasonably needed for security, legal obligations, or honoring an opt-out. Every future marketing email will include an unsubscribe option.
Other websites and notice updates
Restaurant websites, ordering platforms, and other external services have their own privacy practices. We do not process restaurant orders or payments. We will update this notice when our practices change and show the effective date above.
